"See You At The Top" was the poem we used for our tenth event or as Engel would say, Episode 10. This blog serves as our virtual space for sharing what we learned. Thanks to all who attended and we look forward to you attending again.
Distinguish
Any serious attempt to fulfill a set goal or achieve success is dependent on how much preparation is done. Preparation provides a supportive base for the execution of our designed plan by gathering the necessities. Picture a perfect slice of chocolate cake. This delicious, desired outcome weighed heavily on what came before, the preparation of all ingredients and tools. Preparation is indeed an intentional effort to succeed. It lets us know what we are working with. By distinguishing this from the beginning we can make a good projection of the end.
Discretion
The awareness that preparation gives to us, helps in identifying possible obstacles that may threaten goal attainment. Being prepared enables the use of discretion in deciphering which influencing factor is meant for our success or not. Do we have the correct brand of butter or raising agent for our unique cake recipe? With preparation we are not easily overcome by external pressures, disguised or otherwise.
Knowledge
'Knowledge is power' is an empowering statement for the prepared. It is a remover of doubt and a builder of confidence. It lends strength to the belief that 'I can do this'. Preparation through an expanded knowledge base helps us in recognizing opportunities that compliment our ultimate goal. In the words of Alexander Fleming 'the unprepared mind cannot see the outstretched hand of opportunity'.
Practice
Another adage, 'practice makes perfect', highlights the importance of preparation. The practicing of what we prepare increases our competence and authority to deliver when it is needed. Practicing is a springboard to success as it draws on the staying power of consistency and determination to achieve. Tasks become almost near effortless when we prepare.
Growth
Preparation sets us up for the growth that usually follows the momentum of purposeful action. Our attitude is therefore positively impacted, the notch on our personal performance bar is raised a bit higher, even our tested failures provide experiential learning that furthers our growth.
Reality
'Prepare and prevent, don't repair and repent' is a saying that speaks to the parallel reality of preparedness and unpreparedness. Preparation recognizes a measure of time sensitivity in reaching goals. Our preparation should begin no later than now and there is no substitute key that can be used in its stead.
